Still dodging

After leaving Sawyer Michigan, we entered Indiana, then traveled through Illinois and ended up in Oxford Iowa. Thats 4 states in one day. If we keep that up we'll be at our destination in no time!
On our day off we headed into Iowa City because that used to be the State Capital and we thought it would be cool to check out a used to be capitol building. We never did find it but we spent an hour driving around the old downtown of Iowa City. Pretty old town but no impressive buildings although I guess the original building could have been made of logs. Who knows, we couldn't find anything to enlighten us.
After our Iowa City fiasco, we headed down the road again. I bet this picture would stump you but I won't be that mean. We're in Madison County, does that help! Of course, this is one of the bridges of Madison County; duh. I actually don't see the romance in it but then I've been told many times I'm too practical. Maybe it tugs at your heartstrings.
Next stop, Greenwood Nebraska. It's just west of Omaha which will save us from going through their rush hour when we leave tomorrow. Now that's planning! We saw a neat billboard on our way through Omaha. It said "Not everything in Nebraska has to be flat.... Then gave the name of a breast augmentation doctor"; well I thought it was funny.
As you well know if you've been following my blogs, I usually clean the front of Harvey so the bugs don't stick around. Kyle calls it my "make work project" which may be true, but Harvey's clean anyway. Besides, Grammy needs a clean windshield to take our important photos.
The other reason we stopped where we did was so we could easily drive into Lincoln Nebraska. As you well know, we always try to visit a state capital if possible. Voila! Nebraskas capitol building is a must see. It's the only state capital building thats not designed around the national capital. Tall, thin and rather unique. A great stop!
The capitol building was completed in 1932 for a total cost of $9.8 million. Can you imagine what the cost would be today? Elevators will take you up to the 14th floor where you can see the city spread out before you. This was taken from that floor. It's a pretty picture but the project here is to see if you can find our jeep parked on the street.

This is the view of downtown. Isn't that church pretty? Now that our church has closed I find myself looking at other ones and wondering if they would suit us. I guess this is a bit far away. We took the elevator back down, had a nice lunch in the cafeteria (we try to do that because the meals are usually subsidized, or are really cheap for some reason) and then headed back to the campground to hook up and get ready to head out again. Come along if you want.
